Coverup at the Cincinnati Empowerment Corporation
From Howard Wilkinson and today's Cincinnati Enquirer: Eve Bolton has been requesting information on Dale Mallory from the Cincinnati Empowerment Corporation.
Eve Bolton isn't the only one looking into the Cincy Empowerment Corp. The CEC has aroused the curiosity of the press and the city administration down at City Hall. The Office of Inspector General of the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development has been notified of irregularities concerning the Cincinnati Empowerment Corporation."Eve Bolton, a Democratic candidate in the 32nd Ohio House District, wants to know what her opponent, Dale Mallory, makes as a consultant for the Cincinnati Empowerment Corp. and what he does to earn it, but said the agency's lawyers have told her she has no right to see the corporation's budget.
Cincinnati Empowerment Corp. is a nonprofit entity set up in 1998 to manage federal Empowerment Zone grants to nine low-income Cincinnati neighborhoods, including seven in the 32nd Ohio House District. Congress has not funded Empowerment Zone grants in the last several budgets; and the last agency budget posted on the corporation's Web site is from 2003."
The Cincinnati Empowerment Zone must be quite proud of their affiliation with Dale Mallory. They won't even admit for the record if Dale Mallory has ever worked there. The Empowerment Corp is funded solely by taxpayer dollars. As such, taxpayers have a vested interest that this money is spent wisely. If things were done by the book, why the rigmarole, why the delays, why the stonewall?Two weeks ago, Bolton made a request under the Freedom of Information Act asking for copies of its last four annual budgets. Bolton received a letter Wednesday from the corporation's lawyer, Noah J. Stern, saying the Freedom of Information Act did not apply.
"I just want to know what he does for them and for the neighborhoods they are supposed to be helping,'' Bolton said Thursday, standing outside the agency's Avondale office.
If I were executive director, I would use the spotlight to tell people the great things I was doing in the community and show them how effective my programs were. Harold Cleveland left the office and ran for the hills at the first sign of fire. He won't comment. He has nothing to say to the public's questions. He is not accountable to the people.
Nobody from the Cincinnati Empowerment Corporation has made an official public statement. They lawyered up at the first instance they could. Here is a short version of the dialogue:
Public: We have some questions.
Cincinnati Empowerment Zone: Everyone is out of the office, we don't know when they will be back. Talk to our lawyers.
Empowerment Zone Lawyers: Sorry folks, parks closed. The moose out front should have told ya.
The Enquirer story closes with the reporter's futile attempt to contact Dale B. Mallory.
"Mallory could not be reached for comment."
And isn't that just a shocker. Dale Mallory won't even comment on his own employment record. And he wants to represent all of us.
It doesn't matter what Noah J. Stern says, this story is just begining. These people are all acting like they have something to hide, and we are gonna find it.

I thought they had to disclose information to the public, especially in the case of a candidate for public office. I am not familiar with the law though.

I called up to Columbus around 3:30 today to see if someone could give me an explanation on Dale4Sale's filing with the Ethics Commission.
It was a bit of a wait. The receptionist comes back on the line & tells me I need to speak to Eric Bruce. I ask her to transfer me. Unfortunately, Eric Bruce was away from his desk, but would be back shortly.
This was 3:30, friends. Lunch hour is over. Either he was on coffee break, outside having a tobacco break, or in the stall in the men's conference room, or not wanting to take my call.

We're far too smart & have so much info at our fingertips, literally & figuratively, that we are in the position to hold individuals - politicans, not-for-profits, etc., accountable. We've raised the bar on what we will accept & not accept. We must keep pushing to get the truth, get the answers.

Contact the City of Cincinnati. They have oversight of the Empowerment Zone. My guess is that this falls under Christ Bortz and Economic Development. They should be able to get any information that you need.

A hearing is scheduled for Thursday at 9:30 in Judge Nadel's Court Room. This case has every indication that Judge Nick is going to preside. "Nick the Nails" won't put up with any baloney & will keep this moving along.
Howdy couldn't have a better Judge to ensure he receives his just deserves. Ditto for Lawson.
I just discovered this blog a few weeks ago and am watching this development with much interest. I've been wondering for over a year just when a spotlight would be shined on what's going on (or NOT going on) at the CEC and it seems like it's finally happened.

Does anybody plan to attend the CEC's next board meeting on Wednesday? They're open to the public and you're free to ask any questions you'd like. They usually meet at the Avondale Pride Center, but this month it's at the CEC office. And I hear it's taking place at noon instead of after 5 like they usually are. You should probably call the office to verify the time, though.

It is raining on election day. That is always good news. Couple that with the fact that the Buzz is telling everyone to ask for the ticket with Ken Blackwell on it and you have a situation where the sacred Mallory name is vulnerable.
Dale just ran a campaign without any speeches, statements or public apperances since he was shred to pieces on Newsmakers. The sad fact is he may still win by cashing in on the family name.
I visited about 1/2 dozen polling places this morning.
The Eve workers were motivated volenteers. The Dale workers were were mostly there for the money. Dale gets turnout either from Crossroad cool-aiders or paying the Junebug crackheads.
People from Crossroads are working the polls for Dale Mallory. CityLink has been running his campaign for quite some time. If he makes it to Columbus he will immediately go to the highest bidder.
Personal coverage of 22 polling places and two friends in 12 others, the 34 places, 87 precincts represented shows Eve supporters everywhere and energized, upbeat compared to the other guy. Pepper and Dumas are nose to grindstone with respectful
professional campaigns. Trying not to be absorbed in the dale4sale nastiness which is surface polite with nerve on edge mean tempered. Depending on what's holding dale's hand is how he blows today. mt. Airy mafia is taking shots at anyone and eeryone with threats and cruel comments but no one is paying attention. Mallory for Citizens was replaced with the loathed Mallory for Ourselves. Have to hire friends now, pretty soon have to hire people to be family members.
They paid some college kid to work the poll I was at. Mallory has to pay everyone.
Eve's got volunteers out in droves! This morning, I was outside a Clifton polling place with an Eve worker & a Dale is Done worker. A college kid who's changed his major 70-11 times.
I asked where the party is tonite & he claimed he didn't know. I figured he was lying.
During the Noon hour out in College Hill, the people were rolling in rather steady - no Dale is Done people, but a very motivated Eve supporter. Judging by voters' body English in accepting lit, these College Hill people are pro-Eve, pro-Pepper. I might add, the polling place serves a huge percentage of Black voters. It's good to see they're paying attention to the message & what Eve will do for them, rather than voting for da Bro & da Sista.

I voted at one place and then checked out another. When I voted I was the only voter in the building. The other place I checked out had little activity.
They aren't kidding when they say that motivating your base is key to winning. Plenty of people could have voted today and very few did.
Was at a College Hill location with 2 motivated Eve volenteers.
There was one paid D4S thug.
The thug only out gave out lit to black folks and he was surly.

The Black dude laughed it off & told the White Chandra supporter he didn't have the real facts, that what he was saying was rumors & bulls$%t.
